4 years ago I rented storage space and the woman asked for my id and phone:

- Sure, here's my driver's license, and my phone is six five zero, seven-
- No, not your phone number. Your phone.
- ... huh, why?
- So I can leave our store a 5 star review.
- Yeah, that's not going to happen.

I'm still angry today about that incident.

@jaredwhite right?

I was going through a lot at the time (which is why I needed the storage space), and sometimes I half-question myself if that was true. Back then I didn't push back, I refused to give my phone but still signed up with them.

But how can anyone think it's acceptable to (1) use customers' phones, (2) leave fake reviews, and (3) openly admit it?!?

And this was in Oakland, CA.
